Very important to have at all times when flying. It can possibly save your life after an emergency landing in the middle of nowhere when everyone is looking for you. I would also suggest getting a small mirror (sun light reflection) and a first aid kit. You can easily fit this stuff with you in your pilot's bag. You never know when you might need it.
